Aimed at stamp collectors and GTI enthusiasts alike, these limited edition German postage stamps celebrate the iconic hot hatch.
A limited edition run of VW Golf-themed postage stamps has been launched by the German Postal Service, after being commissioned by GTI35.com – Golf GTI Mk1 merchandise and accessory company.
Featuring an original illustration from well-known French artist BOD, simply titled ‘GTI on two wheels’, the picture shows a Mk1 Volkswagen Golf GTI
being driven with some vigour. Like so many GTI’s, the enthusiastically driven Golf is on the way to the Nürburgring Nordschleife, and BOD’s fun style was chosen to capture the GTI’s ability to bring out the racing driver in everyone who drives one.
The first Golf GTI was launched 41 years ago in 1976, and it is widely considered to be template for the modern hot hatchback. To keep collectors happy, just 1976 stamps have been printed.
Although it is aimed at collectors, the self-adhesive postage stamp can be used to send letters in the German mail like any ordinary stamp, although at €10 for two steps – along with GTI-themed card backing – it might not be the cheapest way post your Christmas cards.
