1957-1968 VOLKSWAGEN Beetle 1200/1300 specifications

For the 1200, Volkswagen finally went the full Monty and put a proper rectangular back window on the Beetle, almost twice the size of what had been there before. With a bigger windscreen too, visibility was much improved. The company then continued with constant but subtle improvements. Power also rose gradually; 34bhp in 1960 followed by 40bhp from a 1285cc engine in 1965. A year later, 44bhp came from 1493cc capacity. These Beetles also got front discs so their 78mph performance could be more easily reined in. Cabriolets are worth double saloon prices.
