When the Mk2 Cavalier arrived in August 1981, it marked the point when the mantle of the UK’s favourite repmobile passed from Dagenham to Luton. Underneath its conservative styling was an up-to-the-minute FWD platform that proved durable and reliable, and resulted in a fine driver’s car. When the 115bhp 1.8-litre engine was installed, the Cav was turned into a real wolf in sheep’s clothing, and the ultimate overtaking lane tool. The 1987 SRi 130 was even quicker, and more desirable. Rare now, in demand, and excellent value for money.
