1965-1970 TOYOTA Sports 800 specifications

Considering the S800 was Toyota’s first sports car, it was an impressive effort. Cast very much in the mould of the MG Midget, it was based on the Publica mini-car, and was conceived for the Kei-class. Its flat-twin was eager and capable of pushing the Sports 800 to almost 100mph. Unlike its rival, the Honda S800, the Toyota was no technical tour de force, with solid rear axle and drum brakes – but the body had been styled with particular attention to aerodynamics, and it featured a useful targa top. Never imported into the UK, but a few have subsequently made the trip.
