1979-1983 TALBOT Sunbeam Lotus specifications

Chrysler commissioned Lotus to produce an effective entrant for international rallying. Lotus took a 1.6GLS shell, installed its own slant-four 2.2-litre 160bhp 16 valve engine and a ZF gearbox, fitted light alloy wheels, and uprated the suspension. It proved effective in rallying, winning the 1980 RAC event. The roadgoing version proved quick and balanced, although it was priced higher than the comparable Vauxhall Chevette HS or Escort RS2000 – and currently, values are a long way ahead of the homologation special-style opposition.
