Ex-Prince Naseem Hamed Subaru Impreza 22B, with a mere 2500 miles on the clock, has sold for £73,125 at Silverstone Auctions’ May auction
A Subaru Impreza 22B, owned by the famous ex-boxer Prince Naseem Hamed, has just sold at Silverstone Auctions’ May auction for £73,125. The Impreza has only covered 2500 miles from new, and features the boxer’s logo embroidered into the headrests.
In case you’re not familiar with all the various special edition Imprezas out there (and there are quite a lot!), the 22B is arguably the most special of them all. It wasn’t actually a homologation car, however this was the model that contained all the exotic parts Subaru could throw at it. Recognise those wide arches? This was the only road-going Impreza to ever use them, and they were actually inspired by the WRC car - allowing an 80mm wider track.
The standard Impreza flat-four was enlarged to 2.2-litres, with forged pistons and a number of other improvements. Power was officially ‘276bhp’, although it’s fair to say that it’s considerably higher. Lots of expensive suspension and drivetrain components were also thrown into the mix, making for an exciting and driving experience. Just 400 were built.
It was so good, Colin McRae famously bought one with his own money, despite being part of the works rally team at the time. This example, number 307 of the 400, was bought new by Prince Naseem Hamed who is still the car’s only registered keeper. With just 2500 miles on the clock, the car has recently been serviced by Roger Clark Motorsport of Leicestershire (including the belts) and even comes with the 'S400 WRC' number plate.
Other stand-out results from the sale include a 12k-mile Ferrari Testarossa that sold for £120,375, as well as a Aston Martin DB2/4 that made £151,875. Further results to follow...
