Although not the first car from William Lyons’ Swallow Sidecar Company, the SS100 was a landmark in the development of the Jaguar marque. Powered by a 125bhp version of the Standard engine, this pretty roadster had the power to match its looks. Initially conceived as an image-building exercise for competition, the SS100 proved so appealing that buyers flocked to it, and Lyons ended up building over 300. The post-war cars that followed, wearing the Jaguar badge, were direct descendents of this car.
