I’ve regularly maintained the car myself together with the expert help of a local garage who have an eye for detail. A number of parts have been replaced (preventative maintenance) to ensure Ruby stays on song both mechanically and body wise. This has been a labor of love for the last 25 years I’ve owned the car. I’ve undertaken the following work / enhancements which is all documented: • Rust proofed using from new • Abbott racing replacement stainless exhaust • Abbot racing charged intercooler • Springs and shocks – Abbott • Replaced AC compressor and system rebuild • Alternator and all the v-belts • Headlamps replaced with uprated bulbs • Roof lining replaced • The steering wheel was replaced with a Momo so to preserve the original which I have stored • Tyres • Slotted discs and Mintex pads • All new brake hoses and anti roll bar buses front and rear • Head lamp wiper motors • All engine hoses and vacuum tubing replaced • Door hinges replaced • Door window mechanisms replaced The only part of the car paintwork that is not original is the bonnet due to an encounter 20 years ago with a gritting lorry, which peppered the screen and bonnet. All the other paintwork is original with the exception of a few minor touch-ups, which have been done professionally. The wheels are immaculate and original together with the trim outside and in. The engine and gearbox have not been rebuilt as they don’t need it as they are as good today as they were 25 years ago as a result of two oil changes annually. I’m reluctantly putting the car on the market, as I need the space in the garage where it is permanently kept. I’m interested in selling it to a person who would treasure the vehicle and look after it in the same manner as me. There are repair manuals, an Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) which resides on a HP computer which is also included and a host of parts included in the offer plus a complete history of all the work undertaken and a few books on the history of Saab and the C900.

The Saab 96 was manufactured from 1960 to January 1980, replacing the 93. The 96 featured aerodynamic two-door bodywork, four passenger seating and at first a two-stroke, three-cylinder engine, later a four-stroke V4. Compared with its predecessor, the 93, the 96 featured greater and more easily accessible storage space and larger rear window. The front end was lengthened for 1965 models, in preparation for a new engine. The Saab 96 had first a 740 cc engine, afterwards a841 cc, and finally a 1498 cc V-4 Ford (from the Ford Taunus) The Saab 96 was driven most famously in many international rallies. His most famous successes were first in the 1960, 1961 and 1962 RAC rallies and first in the 1962 and 1963 Monte Carlo rallies. It was these successive, top-level victories that put the Saab 96 'on the map' and established its reputation for reliability and toughness.
