1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II James Young SCT100 LWB

car description

1961 ROLLS-ROYCE JAMES YOUNG “SCT-100” LONG-WHEELBASE SALOON # LCB-69. (Stock # 3695.) Ordered and built for Mrs. J.K. Lilly of Eli Lilly and Company. Mrs. Lilly ordered her new car with a walnut sliding beverage tray and factory sunroof to the front (referred to in the factory build sheets as a “Sunshine Roof” and apparently the only SCT-100 to be built with one), air conditioning, twin reading lamps, twin mirrored folding picnic tables and a Smiths eight day jeweled clock in the center of fabulous burl walnut cabinetry to the rear, an electric division window in between, French marker lamps between the doors, electric windows to both front and rear and an electric antenna. Although based in Indiana (Eli Lilly is the largest corporation in that state), Mrs. Lilly ordered her new car with right-hand-drive, making it seem even more quintessentially British. The car stayed with the Lillys until Mr, Lilly’s death in 1966. Included in his estate sale that year was a fabulous stamp collection and five of the family’s Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars. H.R. Harmer, head of the world-renowned philatelic auction house, purchased the stamp collection and the SCT-100 in 1966. Based in London, H.R
