After Ford launched the Capri in 1969, other European manufacturers launched cheap and cheerful coupés. The 15 and 17 were Renault’s. Based on the chassis of the 12, the 15 was the lower-spec model with single headlamps and conventional side windows, while the 17 had four lights and louvred rear quarter windows, which gave it a strangely beguiling appearance. The range of engines encompassed 1289cc, 1565cc, 1605cc and 1647cc capacities, the latter used in the top-dog 108bhp 17 Gordini. Convertible versions were actually coupés with a full-length roll-top roof to let the sun in.
