Gooding & Company tops $67.7 million at Saturday Pebble Beach sale

15 cars sell above $1 million mark in Monterey

Nearly $70 million-worth of cars have been sold at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions Saturday Sale.

A total of 64 cars were sold from 69 lots on August 15, with marques including, Porsche and Ford, and Ferrari all contributing to the impressive figures.

It was the latter that stole the show, thanks to a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Speciale. The ‘sharknose’ example was sold for $16,500,000, on a night where the car built specially for famed designer Nuccio Bertone made its public auction debut.

Two other Ferrari’s in the form of a 1965 500 Superfast (sold for $3,025,000) and a 1967 275 GTB/4 (sold for $3,877,000) also starred in Monterey, confirming the continued upward market trend in classic Ferraris.

One of the standout stars of the auction was the Le Mans-winning 1982 Porsche 956, which sold $10,120,000, and $1,120,000 more than the prototype's initial sale estimate.

Another Porsche, a 959 Komfort, set a world record by selling for $1,732,500, and was joined in the world record books by a 1986 Ford RS200 Evolution and 1939 Lagonda V-12 Rapide, both of which sold for record prices.

A 2015 McLaren P1 continued the success of modern supercars at Monterey Car Week with a sale price of $1,925,000, which came in above the average price per car of $1,089,726.

A spokesperson for Gooding & Company confirmed that the auction was Gooding’s ‘most successful one-day sale in the company’s history.’
