The last ever-special order Porsche bought by Steve McQueen, a 930 Turbo, is coming up for auction with Mecum
Steve McQueen’s Porsche 930 Turbo is up for sale, and is set to make waves when it is sold at Mecum’s Monterey auction this August. The Hollywood superstar and renowned car lover had this particular Porsche specially ordered in Slate Grey with a black interior, later adding wider 8-inch front wheels and 9-inch rear wheels.
The car was also customised with sports seats, a sunroof and positraction limited slip differential. On top of this he also had the car modified for his particular needs, adding a switch into the dashboard that could kill the rear lights in order to cut short a night-time police chase.
The car itself is a powerful early production non-intercooled 930 Turbo with a four-speed gearbox, 3.0-litre flat-six engine and a top speed of about 153mph. Normally the car would be worth around £70,000 in this condition, however due to the rather special specification and previous owner, it is expected to sell for rather a lot more.
No matter how much the car does sell for, the current owner is planning on donating some of the money it earns to The Boys Republic, which is a non profit organisation helping young people in California. The car will go under the hammer on August 13-15.
