PORSCHE 928 GTS AUTOMATIC
Since its inception in 1949, Porsche has manufactured only seven front-engined models, four of which were coupes, including the 928. The car has the distinction of being the company's only coupe powered by a front-mounted V8 engine, and the company's first production V8 powered model.
Produced from 1978 to 1995, the 928 combined the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan to create what some Porsche executives thought would be a vehicle with wider appeal than the compact, quirky and sometimes difficult 911.
This late model 928 GTS, the most desirable variant, was first registered in Paris having been delivered new through the official concessionaire and has more recently been in careful ownership in Belgium. It is very clear, upon close inspection, that this has been a cherished car. Unfeasibly clean in all areas and with so little evidence of the usual rigours of daily life, one can only believe that it has always been one of a stable of fine automobiles.
Having recently had the great pleasure of an extended European run, the writer can testify to faultless performance in all respects. The engine starts easily from cold and when hot, idling quietly and without smoke while idling quietly and maintaining a normal operating temperature. The Automatic box is silky smooth and the engine pulls as willingly as one might anticipate. All instruments and accessories operate correctly.
Here is a rare opportunity for the discerning buyer to secure a genuine bargain. These fine automobiles have significantly increased in value in the last short while. Those in the know speculate that there is much to be gained by snapping up examples such as this, both for driving pleasure and potential financial benefit.
