A Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera coupe belonging to James May will be auctioned off at Bonhams’ Goodwood FoS sale
A 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, owned by former Top Gear presenter James May, will be offered by Bonhams at its upcoming Festival of Speed auction.
This 3.2-litre Guards Red Porsche 911 has the optional Sport Pack, meaning it produces 231bhp with a top speed of 152mph; the Porsche is able to reach 100mph in a blisteringly fast 13.6 seconds. Described as being a piece of social history, ‘standing for everything that 190s Britain was about’ it’s currently fitted with a CD player but May also has the original radio/cassette to go with it – along with a Haynes workshop manual.
James May has explained that although he bought the Porsche, it was actually being used by his parents, who eventually decided that they had grown too old and gave it back to him in order to sell. The car has also been used on screen, most notably in ‘James May’s Toy Stories’ as well as the online production ‘James drives to the studio’.
The Porsche is currently estimated at £28,000-£34,000 and will be sold on 26 June at Goodwood. Both May and co-star Richard Hammond recently sold a large collection of motorcycles through Bonhams, following the show being taken off the air.
