  • Chamonix 550 Spyder

    £39,995 £39,995

The Porsche 550 Spyder is one of the most iconic sports racing cars of all time. Its impossibly pretty lines and diminuitive stature took the world by storm at its 1953 release and its perfect mid-engined balance and lightweight construction made it a brilliant sports car for the road and a giant killing racer on track. It took its final bow just three years later with a stunning victory at the 40th Targa Florio where the 1500cc Spyder of Umberto Maglioli demolished a field of Ferraris, Jaguars and Maseratis all with twice the engine capacity. The 550 infamously also holds the rather more sad status as the car in which James Dean met his end. The few remaining genuine 550s are very valuable cars indeed and well beyond the reach of most enthusiasts. There are numerous replicas in the market place today, but we would be surprised if any is better than this stunning little machine. It is a Chamonix car, built by Special Edition Inc. in the USA in 2009 and initially supplied to F1 Assistant Race Director Herbie Blash (he's the chap usually seen in the driver's weighing room after a Grand Prix). The firm has built similar cars for some very big motoring names including collector Jay Len

  • 1956 Porsche 550 Spyder Replica

    POA POA

(SOLD) An exacting replica of Porsche’s most iconic 1950’s Sportscar, finished in the authentic color scheme of silver over red leather, this is a great presentation both mechanically and cosmetically, and nearly unmistakable for the car owned by legend, James Dean. This specific 550 Replica was manufactured by Vintage Spyders located in Orange, CA and is based on the 1955 Spyder that is designed to use the front suspension, engine and transmission from a type 1 VW. An interesting fact about this particular replica is that it was Titled in California as a 1956 Porsche rather than a NSP vehicle so it is not recognized as a new vehicle and will never be entitled to smog certification. The body is fiberglass painted basecoat clear coat, color sanded and buffed, engine compartment coated in Zolotone, 911 shroud, modern oil cooler and filter, dual Weber 44 Carburetors, 3.44:1 Supertrans differential, Neal Pedals, Hydraulic Clutch, 550 Spyder competition shifter, Spyder free-flow dual coated exhaust system, Painted Tubular Chassis, genuine VDO instruments, flush banjo steering wheel, and bright H4 headlights. In a nutshell, it is an exceedingly high quality build that is capable of pushi

  • 1955 Porsche Beck 550 Spyder Replica

    $54,900(£42,229.08) $54,900(£42,229.08)

Factory built in 1991 by Beck Development in Chuck Becks Upland, California facility. After its completion, it was cosmetically transformed to resemble in every detail the most famous 550 Spyder, James Deans Little Bastard. It was then used in the 1996 David Cronenberg movie CRASH starring James Spader and Holly Hunter. In this movie that characters reprise the actor James Deans fatal 1955 accident in his original Little Bastard. Though it is titled as a 1957 VW, THIS IS NO KIT CAR. It boasts a 3 inch twin tube ladder frame that runs the length of the car. The main body and floor pans are riveted and bonded to the frame rails which makes this car extremely rigid. It is only the 62nd Beck ever produced and it bares the factory serial number 00628. Many period correct options have been installed by its owner over the years including GT outside mirrors, leather rear bonnet straps, conversion to original style 5 bolt wheels with front disc brakes. In 2010 the engine was updated by Bergmann to a 2498 CC with period correct Porsche style fan shroud with a cost of $7000. This historic vehicle is well documented and has thick files detailing past work, maintenance and history. $54,900
