With four gear-driven camshafts, dry-sump lubrication, twin spark plugs and even roller-bearing crankshafts on early models, 356 Carreras are not for the faint of heart or wallet. Built with competition in mind, and producing most of their power high up in the rev range, they don’t even make good road cars. However, none of that detracts from their collectibility. Even the 1500 versions will hit 120mph. Two-litre Carrera 2 is the ultimate, 126 of which were built starting in 1962. Be aware that this was a year before the arrival of disc brakes for these cars.
