1984-1988 PONTIAC Fiero specifications

Gutless Fiat X1/9 pastiche or advanced sports car? The Pontiac Fiero was certainly a brave experiment by General Motors that deserved to sell better than it did. It was the first American mid-engined car and the first two-seater Pontiac in over 50 years. But the sporting looking car didn’t go as well as it looked, and the 2.5-litre Iron Duke engine did its best impression of a boat anchor, although the later V6 was a massive improvement. The experiment failed – relatively speaking – and production lasted only five years and one facelift, with over 300,000 examples built.
