1965-1980 PEUGEOT 204/304 Saloon specifications

The 204 and 304 were a leap forward for Peugeot as they were the firm’s first cars with transverse front engines driving the front wheels. Combined with independent rear suspension, servo-assisted brakes and anti-roll bars, the advanced suspension delivered surefooted roadholding and a comfortable ride, in true French style. The 304 was similar in conception, but with a longer front and rear, plusher interiors and a more powerful 1.3-litre engine it was a lot more satisfying to own. Downsides were few – but lack of glamour was one, as was corrosion.
