1975-1988 OPEL Manta B specifications Classic and Performance Car

In 1975, the Opel Manta – along with its Ascona kissing-cousin – were given a full makeover. Out went the Corvette inspired curves, to be replaced by a sharp new ‘70s suit. The Manta’s handling was taut and faithful, and performance more than acceptable in fuel-injected GT/E form. Range expanded to include a useful hatchback version, called the Berlinetta, in 1978, and soon after, the 1.9-litre cam-in-head power unit was expanded to 2-litres. Performance and image always seemed to be overshadowed in the UK by the Capri, even thought the Opel was better engineered.
