Silverstone Auctions have announced an inaugural racing car-only sale in the build-up to the 2015 Silverstone Classic.
The competition car sale is the first of its kind to be hosted by Silverstone Auctions, and will take place on Thursday 23rd July, prior to the festival weekend.
The sale will include cars from various era and of a wide array of budgets, including a 1998 BTCC Nissan Primera Super Tourer, previously driven by Anthony Reid, and a 1983 March-Honda Formula 3 car.
One of the lot highlights is set to be the 1983 Osella-Alfa Romeo Formula One car, which was raced in the World Championship by Piercarlo Ghinzani. The car is in a ready-to-race condition after a fresh restoration, including an engine rebuild. The single-seater has only had one previous owner, and is available for sale at an estimated of £100,000-£125,000.
Last year Silverstone Auction’s enjoyed an 85 per cent success rate on sales across its mandatory two classic car sales. This year’s additional racing car-only auction is only set to further that, with the increase in demand being the reason cited for it’s inclusion.
Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions, says: 'It’s a pleasure to be returning to Silverstone Classic again this year – an event we’re proud partners of. This year marks an exciting new prospect for drivers and spectators, with the first-ever racing car-only sale at such a special motorsport event.
'We couldn’t think of another location that lends itself so perfectly to a sale of this type. The sale has stemmed from an increasing amount of popularity of privately owned racing cars competing in historic series, such as the races here at Silverstone Classic. The team and I are very excited to open the doors to the sale in the lead-up to the event.'
