OCTANE’S LEGENDS OF SPEED evening at London’s Royal Automobile Club in conjunction with EFG International and BRM watches proved a success, with great tales told by Richard Noble, Andy Green and Don Wales to more than 100 Octane readers.

Many of the current Bloodhound record attempt team were also present, including legendary aerodynamicist Ron Ayers. The underlying theme for the evening was not just the achievements of Land Speed Record-breaking teams, but also the positive impact that record attempts have on engineering.

The rivalry between record breakers and Formula 1 was also noted, and there was great hilarity when Noble pointed out that Bloodhound uses a Cosworth F1 engine simply to pump fuel to its rocket motor.
