The iconic Chicago glasshouse and garage combination featured in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is currently up for sale for a cool .8m.
Best remembered as the location where Ferris Bueller’s best friend Cameron accidentally sends his father’s prized Ferrari California plunging through a plate glass window into the ravine below, the Ben Rose Home would make the perfect place to park the actual car used in the film, as recently sold by Bonhams.
The Ben Rose Home, which is cantilevered over the ravine, comprises two steel-and-glass buildings, and was designed by notable architects A James Speyer and David Haid. Built in 1953, it’s the ideal house for affluent car enthusiasts: the late Ben and Frances Rose used to display their own classic cars in the glass pavillion attached to the house.
In the film, a replica of the Ferrari 250GT California Spider, built by Modena, was catapulted through the glass backwards, crashing to the ground in a crumpled heap. At least three cars were used for filming and one was sold at Bonhams Collectors’ Motor Cars in Hendon this April for a whopping £79,600, double its pre-sale estimate of £30,000-40,000.
Will its new owner now be bidding on this amazing Chicago property for the full Bueller experience?
