Italian supercar manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini is the 2010 JEC Composites Show’s official guest of honour. The car maker is a technology leader in lightweight material use in modern car design and construction, hence its presence at a show regarded as the leading global forum on composite material development.
The JEC Composites Forum takes place in Paris from 13-15 April. Lamborghini’s presentation includes exhibiting specific new carbon fibre components and a speech by the company´s Director of Research and Development, Maurizio Reggiani, on 14 April. Lamborghini participates in the forum for the first time, displaying an example of Lamborghini’s world-famous ultra light-weight construction: the Lamborghini Reventón, one of only 20 ever built.
The supercar manufacturer has a long-standing tradition of using and developing lightweight materials. Additionally, the constant weight-to-power ratio optimization is one of its major long-term strategic investments and is a central focus of its corporate development.
Only recently, Lamborghini stepped up its activities by founding a research laboratory together with two other field leaders. The ‘Automobili Lamborghini Advanced Composite Structures Laboratory’ (ASCL) was officially opened in Seattle (Washington/USA) in October last year, to demonstrate the company’s commitment to leading-edge research on carbon composites of the future. Lamborghini’s partners are the University of Washington and the Boeing Corporation, a leader in the development and use of carbon composite lightweight solutions for airplane and aerospace construction.
The innovative use of lightweight materials is a core element of the company´s CO2 emission reduction strategy. Lamborghini will reduce its product CO2 emissions by 35 per cent in 2015.
