...The Cygnet Concept brings intelligence, innovation and artistry to the small car market
Following last year's controversial announcement that it was considering entry into the city car market, Aston Martin has released more pictures and details on the Cygnet concept. Based on the Toyota iQ, it's difficult not to see the relationship between the two, but Aston is adamant that every body panel is new, and although the engine will remain unchanged, not much else will be left untouched.

Unlike all other Aston Martins, speed will not be part of the Cygnet package. The 1.3-litre engine brings impressive CO2 figures to the table however, which would benefit Aston Martin massively by reducing the company's average CO2 output. The driving experience is designed to be one of luxury, exclusivity and comfort, featuring one of their trademark leather interiors.

If the Cygnet is put into production, Aston Martin predicts that it could sell between 2000 and 4000 in the first year, and each one of those would be tailored to suit each individual customer's requirement, offering a level of personalisation and luxury that is currently not available in any other car of this size.

Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin Chief Executive, believes that many of these customers would already be Aston Martin owners, but require something more practical for everyday driving. He said: 'Many of our customers have a need for a small car for urban and city use, the Cygnet Concept brings intelligence, innovation and artistry to the small car market. The Cygnet Concept represents the natural choice for those customers looking for a premium commuter car'.
