The new Dyna Wide Glide makes a return to Harley’s range after a two year hiatus and is what most riders would describe as a ‘classic chopper’ with a low back end and raked out front wheel.
Ordinarily this would be of some concern as this style of bike is seldom known for its handling due to a tendency for a vague feeling from the front wheel, but for 2010 Harley has concentrated its efforts on stiffening the Wide Glide’s chassis, a move that has transformed the bike. Unlike previous models of Wide Glide, once on the go the 2010 bike has a feeling of security from the front tyre and can happily be cornered up until the point that your boot’s sole starts to get worn away, which is a remarkable improvement.
Add to this the introduction of the new generation of 1584cc V-twin engine, which includes a sixth gear for overdrive and 94ft.lb of torque yet still retains the wonderful raw feeling and sound that epitomises a Harley V-twin motor, and you have a bike that now delivers the full Harley experience yet can be enjoyed in the bends as well as the straights. Although it retails at £10,950 for the plain black or red colours, the flame paint scheme on the tank, which looks fantastic in the sun, is an extra £490.
Also new for 2010 is the Fat Boy Special, which is essentially the same as the current Fat Boy but comes dressed in a moody black finish rather than chrome and has lowered suspension to suit shorter riders, and the Electra Glide Ultra Limited, which is an accessorised Electra Glide and uses the bigger capacity Twin Cam 103 motor. The Special costs £14,730 while the Limited is £20,180.
