Wolfgang Scholz (56) has been named the new head of Opel Classic, the brand’s collection of historic cars. In addition to his current duties in product communication for
Scholz succeeds the retired Heinz Zettl, who built up Opel Classic to its current form. “Opel was founded 147 years ago. For the last 110 years automotive innovation belongs to our core business. It has been my life-long dream to be a part of this tradition and in particular its presentation to the public,” Scholz said.
Wolfgang Scholz, a trained mechanic who happily works on his own oldtimers in his spare time, began working in 1979 as a journalist for several German specialty-car magazines, including Auto Zeitung, Rallye Racing, and, as a freelancer, for Auto Bild. He joined Opel’s public relations’ team in 1998, where he has worked ever since as a specialist in product and events. In his new European function, he also will report to Jean-Philippe Kempf, manager, Opel Brand Communications Europe.
