Former McLaren boss Teddy Mayer has died aged 73.
Having helped establish the concern in 1964, it was following eponymous team owner Bruce’s death in 1970 that he took joint control, four years later assuming full command, with results including F1 World Drivers Championships for Emerson Fittipaldi in 1974 and James Hunt in 1976.
Mayer left in 1982 to run his own CART Championship team before joining the Haas/FORCE F1 outfit. Four years later he was appointed vice-president of Penske Racing with which he remained a consultant until 2007.
