Tesla Sport unveiled

Tesla ups the stakes

Tesla Motors has added the faster and more expensive Sport model to its lineup

Tesla Roadster Sport

The Roadster Sport will also share the powertrain with the automaker's all-electric Tesla Model S luxury sedan
Tesla is taking orders for its new Roadster Sport, an even faster version of the Roadster, which so impressed Octane when we drove it in 2008. The Roadster will arrive in showrooms in late June and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, compared with 3.9 seconds for the standard Roadster.

The Roadster Sport will also share the powertrain with the automaker's all-electric Tesla Model S luxury sedan, which is slated to go on sale in 2011. The Sport also gets an improved suspension with adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars that will be tuned to the driver’s preference. It is fitted with Yokohama’s Ultra High Performance tyres.

The Roadster Sport starts at $ 128,500 in the United States and €112,000 (excluding VAT) in Europe. Tesla has said it has delivered 150 roadsters and about 1100 people are on the waiting list. Customers who have not yet taken delivery of their vehicle can upgrade to the Roadster Sport.
