The Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss has been unveiled, and is the most uncompromising version yet of the McLaren-Mercedes supercar, which has received rather mixed reviews since first appearing in 2005. The new car, which has no roof or windscreen, is powered by the same 641bhp supercharged V8 from the outgoing SLR and SLR Roadster.

The new car, which clearly takes its cues from Sir Stirling's famous Mille Miglia-winning 300SLR '722' (see Octane, February 2009), receives retro-tweaked styling and a revised exterior. Two air scoops, moulded into the bodywork above the headrests, double up as roll hoops, and a central bar splits the cabin into two distinct cockpits. The carbon fibre bodywork has been completely redesigned, and now features huge side vents.

Only 75 cars will be made between June and December 2009, starting as soon as the final SLR roadster has roared off the production line. Costing a 750,000 Euros, the exclusive SLR Stirling Moss will only be made available to hand-picked clients who have shown loyalty to the SLR brand.
