New Bugatti

Veyron 16.4 GS unveiled at Monterey

The new Veyron Grand Sport breezes into Monterey to become the world's fastest roadster

With the roof closed, Bugatti claims a top speed of 255mph – and more remarkably, 225mph with it off.
The Bugatti range has been increased to two with the unveiling of the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Despite looking so similar to the existing 16.4, Bugatti claims to have significantly re-engineered the vehicle’s complex structure in order to make the roadster conversion.

Bugatti claims that the Grand Sport is the stiffest roadster yet built, and carbon fibre has been used extensively to supply additional bracing. Visual changes are limited to a higher windscreen, stylised daytime running lights, and redesigned air intakes that double up as roll-over hoops.

With the roof closed, Bugatti claims a top speed of 255mph – and more remarkably, 225mph with it off. However, if you’re caught in the rain and you’ve left the roof at home, there’s an innovative folding roof stored in the luggage compartment that can be opened up like an umbrella at any time – but don’t try exceeding 80mph in that configuration.

Set for introduction in March 2009 at a price of 1.4 million Euros, just 150 Grand Sports will made – so get your order in early.
