Bonhams broke records at its ninth annual Aston Martin sale at Newport Pagnell this Saturday (May 17).

The auction grossed £4.7million – double last year's total. The headlining car – a 1961 DB4 GT Coupe (pictured) – realised £1,079,500 – a record price for the model. One of only 75 built, the DB4 GT Coupe was in mint condition having covered only 18,300 miles from new.

97 per cent of all lots sold, and bids were taken from Europe, the US, Australia and Japan.

Other notable sales included: a 1968 DB6 Mk1 Volante at £309,500 (estimate £160,000 – 180,000); 1976 Lagonda V8 Series 1 four-door saloon at £254,500 (estimate £140,000 – 180,000) – a new record and a 1964 DB5 Saloon at £199,500 (estimate £140,000 – 160,000).
