A 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Convertible will go up for sale at Bonhams\' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on July 11.
A 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL Convertible will go up for sale at Bonhams' Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on July 11.
Owned by the original buyer for 46 years, the car was ordered and bought by a family living in Aden on the Arabian Peninsula.
Along with the optional leather upholstery and non-standard British Racing Green paintwork, a hardtop was ordered due to the amount of grenades that were thrown during the hostilities as a result the British presence in Aden in the 1960s.
The owner, a Mrs Youngman, always carried a Walther PPK pistol in the glovebox and taught her young children to play 'Duck!' in case of danger.
Despite the constant threats, the car and family survived unscathed. The 190 SL is also in excellent condition with only 71,000 miles on the clock and an extensive history. It is expected to realise between £18,000 and £20,000 when it goes under the hammer in July.
