€2.1 million Bugatti Type 55 at Bonhams Monaco

Bonhams' 19th annual sale in Monte Carlo's SAS Prince Rainier’s Motor Museum made a total of €8.2 million – one of the most successful sales held in Monaco

Bonhams' 19th annual sale at Monte Carlo's SAS Prince Rainier’s Motor Museum on May 10 made a total of €8.2 million – one of the most successful sales held in Monaco.

Highlight of the sale was a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Super Sport which sold to a private European collector for €2,097,500.

The car raced at Le Mans in 1934 with amateur French racer Charles Brunet and Freddie Zehender at the wheel. It has also been part of the Bill Serri collection and the Mas du Clos collection.

Other notable cars included 1969 Ferrari 365 GTS at €799,500 – one of only 20 built and a world record auction price for the model; a 1938, race-prepared BMW 328 at €442,000 and a 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, which realised €359,500.
