Sir Stirling Moss has announced he is retiring from competitive motor racing at the age 81. Moss was scheduled to race his Porsche RS61 with Ian Nuthall in Sunday's Le Mans Legends race, but shortly after qualifying he told fans that he's hanging up his driving gloves for good.
'I was frightened before I even got in the car,' he said. 'This afternoon I scared myself and I have always said that if I felt I was not up to it or that I was getting in the way of fellow competitors, then I would retire. I love racing, but now it is time to stop.'
For the full inside story of his retirement and his final drive of the RS61, see the August issue of Octane, on sale 27 June.
