If you've ever read one of Octane's historic rally reports, you might have thought about trying it out for yourself, but with all the different events it can be difficult to know how to begin. This new one day event from the Endurance Rally Association and the UK Endurance Rally Championship promises to answer all your questions, as well as providing an excellent day of entertaining stories and anecdotes, at the Gaydon Motor Heritage Centre on Saturday 30 July.
From a Saturday night blast round mountain roads in Wales to driving from London to Cape Town next January, the road-rally scene offers a huge variety. The special teach-in and seminar, just for novices and newcomers, is a joint-operation between the E.R.A. and the organisers of the UK Endurance Rally Championship, with the aim of providing people interested in rallying with all the facts, most importantly what you need to be successful!
Guest speakers include Philip Young, organiser of the Peking to Paris endurance rally, with Stuart Turner, the former BMC team-boss, who was involved with the Monte Carlo winning Mini Coopers and went on to run Ford motor-sport, with the all-conquering Ford Escort. Having founded the Motoring News rally championship in the 1960s, and organising the Healey’s last big win on the ’64 Liege Sofia Liege, there won’t be a dry eye in the house when Stuart gets going about his adventures from the golden-era of rallying.
