Jan Ake and I will enjoy the event and we’re looking forward to a little friendly rivalry between team-mates - Victor Muller
As a tribute to Saab’s early motor sport victories, and the important role they played in bringing the brand international recognition, Saab Automobile CEO Jan Ake Jonsson and Saab Automobile Chairman and Spyker Cars CEO Victor Muller, will both be entering into this year’s Mille Miglia, each driving a 1957 Saab 93.

During the 1957 Mille Miglia, Saab took 1st in class with Charlie Lohmander at the wheel, with Harald Kronegard co-driving. The two Saab executives will be honouring this win, with cars prepared by the Saab Car Museum in Sweden.

The 93 was faster than much more powerful machinery, due to its 810kg curb-weight, advanced aerodynamics and agile FWD chassis. The 748cc three-cylinder two stroke engine develops 45bhp - easily enough to embarrass the competition in many events.

Victor Muller is a veteran of the Mille Miglia, and this year will be his tenth entry into the 1000-mile endurance run. Talking about the upcoming event, he said: ‘The 93 is unlike any other car I’ve entered, which is hardly surprising as it’s a Saab. Jan Ake and I will enjoy the event and we’re looking forward to a little friendly rivalry between team-mates.  It certainly won’t be as intense as the competition between Eklund and Blomqvist when they were rallying with Saabs in the late 70s.’

The Mille Miglia takes place from 5th May to 9th May 2010. For more information on the Mille Miglia, visit the offical website here: Mille Miglia Official Website
