Despite ash clouds over Europe the weather was warm and sunny, though a few entries were lost due to the inability to get into England from abroad. The first Top Hat raceday boasted six races, with two being for the Oldies but Goldies Pre '60 Touring Cars.

Race one was  for V8s and Europeans boasting  four Ford Falcons and a Mustang against BMWs Cortinas Minis etc, Victory went to the Falcon of Harry Wyndham ahead of Mike Wrigley in his Mustang, the race was shortened by five minutes when the Mini of Russell Earnshaw got beached on the kerb at Russell.

Race 2 and 4 were for the Oldies but Goldies pre 1960 toring cars, and both were won by the Nigel Webb/ Neil Cunningham Jaguar which battled for the entire race with the spirited A40 driven by Mark Daniell who was quicker through the corners but being passed on the straights by the Volvo of Paul Taft / Malcolm Harrison. This epic dice fizzled out midway through the second rwce when Daniell retired , but another Jaguar / A40 dice between Matthew Moore and Peter Burton to entertain the crowd.

Race 3 contained fourteen Jaguars against a mixture of Cloth Cap entries, the winner being the Wright / Wilkinson E-Type ahead of the Marcos of Peter Thompson, but dice of this race was sorted out last lap, last coirner in favour of the Lotus Elan 26R of Steve Seaman/Adam Bagnall over the Nick and Harry Whale Ford Shelby Mustang.

A race of attrition for the Stars of the Seventies went to Mike Wrigleyand his Mark 1 Escort, second going to the Art BMW of John Yong/Perryman taking second from Vince Woodman/Dan Cox in their Capri on the last lap. Mark Bates made his race debut in his beautiful Porsche 911 ST, limping to the finish after a very impressive drive.

The last race of the day was a disappointment with only six starters after mechanical woes earlier in the day, victory going to the experienced pairing of Michael Schryver and Simon Hadfield over the spiritedly driven Joe Twyman/Ron Maydon Mini.
