More than twenty years since their last victory at Le Mans, Jaguar has announced that the recently unveiled JaguarRSR racing car, the XKR GT2, will be taking part in this year’s Le Mans 24-Hour race.
I can guarantee 100 per cent commitment from JaguarRSR and urge fans of Jaguar and Britain’s racing heritage to support the team whole heartedly
2010 signals the 75th year in Jaguar’s motorsport history, and what better way to celebrate than with a foray into the American Le Mans Series (AMLS), and now the Le Mans 24-hour race. The new XKR race car will race in the GT2 Class, and rather than going for an all-out win in the Prototype class, the British team will be trying for a victory in the lower GT2 class.
With a total of seven Le Mans wins between 1951 and 1990, Jaguar is the most successful British manufacturer in the history of the 24-hour race, but other than a brief and unsuccessful stint in F1, the motor racing scene has seen very little from Jaguar over the last ten years.
Principle Partner of JaguarRSR, Paul Gentilozz, will be driving the new car in the American Le Mans series, and after the announcement said: 'Spirits will be high around Jaguar’s return to Le Mans but we must remember the incredibly high level of competition - a podium place in our category will not fall into our hands. That said, I can guarantee 100% commitment from JaguarRSR and urge fans of Jaguar and Britain’s racing heritage to support the team whole heartedly.'
The final driver line-up hasn't been officially announced, but Gentilozz went on to say: 'We are fortunate to bring an international line up of the world's finest driving talent including Scott Pruett and Marc Goossens as our drivers for this race.'
