RM Auctions has a large number of cars headed to its annual Arizona sale, which is expected to kick off the 2013 US auction season in spectacular style on 18 January. Eye-catching lots include a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta ‘Competizione’, road-going Ford GT40 and Shelby 427 ‘Semi-Competition’ Cobra.
The fully documented 1967 Shelby 427 ‘Semi-Competition’ Cobra, CSX 3045 is one of just 29 S/C Cobras built, and boasts an extensive vintage-racing career. It was formerly part of the famous John Mozart Collection, where it was subjected to a full, professional restoration. The estimate is $ 1,400,000–$ 1,700,000. See below for a video of the Cobra in action.
Also expected to draw a large amount of interest is the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta ‘Competizione’, chassis 1905 GT. This particular car is number 17 of just 74 Competizione-specification SWB examples produced, and according to RM is considered one of the purest and most well-documented examples.
Ford’s GT40 was designed to take on Ferrari at Le Mans, but P/1034 was the first production GT40 road car delivered new to the UK. Sympathetically restored, beautifully maintained, and finished in its original factory shade of Pine Green, although now with silver Le Mans stripes as a subtle hint to its racing prowess, P/1034 is presented for auction as an excellent candidate for vintage touring and racing, as well as display at the world’s top events, estimated to sell for $ 2,400,000 – $ 3,000,000.
Other sale highlights include a 1938 Delahaye 135 MS Coupe ($ 1,000,000–$ 1,400,000), 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SC Cabriolet ($ 800,000–$ 1,000,000), 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 ‘SV Specification’ ($ 700,000–$ 850,000), 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster (0,000–0,000), Pebble Beach-winning 1934 Cadillac V-16 Convertible Sedan by Fleetwood ($ 650,000–$ 850,000) and 1935 Auburn 851SC ‘Boattail’ Speedster ($ 500,000–$ 575,000).
Shelby Myers, Managing Director, RM California, commented: ‘Our Arizona sale boasts a strong track record for presenting automobiles of exceptional quality and pedigree. Continuing this theme in 2013, our upcoming sale at the Arizona Biltmore features the finest offering in the event’s 14-year history. With an emphasis on ‘best of category’ examples, the catalogue spans the spectrum of the market, from important and historic sports and racing cars, such as the 250 GT SWB and the Ford GT40, through to elegant coachbuilt automobiles and American muscle.’
