Enthusiastic, International bidders competed over the 147 lots, including eight veteran cars (four of which have were entered into Sunday’s London to Brighton run). The sale realised a total of £694,000 with 91% sold by lot (81% by value). The oldest car entered into the London to Brighton run, a 113yr old 1898 Fisson 8hp Twin-Cylinder Six-seat Wagonette, sold for £156,600. It is believed to be the only surviving Panhard-style Fisson.
Also entered into the run was a 112yr old 1899 Panhard-Levassor Type M2F 6hp Wagonette that sold for £158,800. The French firm was responsible for developing the Système Panhard, essentially the layout of the modern motorcar, and the Type M2F 6hp Wagonette was an excellent example of its type. The other veteran motor cars entered into the run included a 1902 Renault 8hp Type G Two-Seater that sold for £89,500 and a rare 1902 Deckert 8hp Two-seater, selling for £66,400.
Tim Schofield, Head of the Department comments, 'Once again, the appeal of the London to Brighton run has a secured a busy saleroom and successful auction at Bonhams. The motoring team here at Bonhams are now looking forward to the 78th Veteran car run on Sunday.'
