Report: Barons, Esher, Surrey

Pre-Christmas Cheer

The weather might have been cold, but there was some hot bidding at Barons' final sale of 2010.

Report: Barons, December 2010

Report: Barons, December 2010 - 1959 Aston Martin DB MKIII DHC made £175,459

Despite the freezing weather and record snowfalls over the preceding few days, Barons managed to host a successful sale with just one entry withdrawn. The decision to open the Surrey Hall on Sunday helped many and 30 cars arrived early, thus avoiding the freezing weather and the rush on Monday morning.

The sale was very well attended with well over 500 people filling the Surrey Hall and taking advantage of the customary and complimentary Sherry and Mince pies, which Barons lay on every year.

It was difficult to pick a Star lot as there were some beautiful cars on offer but the highest price was paid for the 1959 Aston Martin DB MKIII DHC at £175,459. The other DB MkIII (pictured above), which was offered as a rolling shell with a number of boxes containing the removed parts, made a very decent £70,000, while the SS1 Tourer and MKV Jaguar realised a very healthy £106,000.

With 44 cars finding new owners (65%) this was an excellent result and brings 2010 to  very healthy close.
