THE RAMPAGING values of Aston Martin DBs took another step towards the stratosphere when David Brown’s former car – in barn find condition – sold for a scarcely believable £206,000 at Barons Auctions.

The ‘lost’ 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MkIII drophead, originally the property of former Aston Martin owner Brown, spent the past 30 years hidden beneath a tarpaulin. Barons pitched the car’s estimate at £80,000-100,000, which in ‘normal’ circumstances could have been considered slightly ambitious.

But the excellent overall performance of DBs at recent Bonhams and RM sales – and this car’s provenance – has been responsible for driving up the car’s price to this level. The car, at the very least a rolling restoration project, emerged from hiding after three decades to present collectors with an opportunity to acquire a significant piece of Aston Martin history.

Barons’ managing director Laurence Sayers-Gillan said: ‘It was an amazing lot that attracted a huge amount of attention and exceeded all expectations.’
