Bonhams achieved another excellent result on Friday 30 April at the annual Monaco sale, ‘Les Grandes Marques á Monaco’. After a day of fierce bidding, the total realised came to three million euros with 70% of the lots sold.
Drawing particular interest were the three pre-war cars: a 1938 Welsh rally-winning Jaguar SS 100, sold for €249,500, an MG J2 sold for €50,600, and a 1934 Mercedes-Benz 500 Nürburg Cabriolet was bid up to €240,000.
An early 1989 Ferrari F40, formerly owned by Michel Neugarten, fetched
€255,000, beating its estimate. A beautifully
presented former concours winning left hand drive Jaguar XK120 Roadster
was also sold for €86,250 euros.
Philip Kantor, Head of Department Europe commented: 'It was encouraging to witness growing interest in pre-war cars in this year’s Monaco sale, while Lancias are clearly proving ever more popular in the current market, with two Aurelias and a rare 1968 Lancia Flaminia Super Sport, formerly the property of Rowan Atkinson, all selling for strong prices.'
