Collection sales seem to have become an RM Auctions speciality during the past couple of years. As if
to cement this, it has consigned an important selection of muscle cars for its upcoming sale in San Diego. The event is billed as a Classic Muscle and Modern Performance sale and, with over 80 examples from a prominent Southern California collector up for grabs, all offered without reserve, it’s going to be a real spectacular.

Top dog at the sale is a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88, fully documented with low mileage. It’s an old-school performance car, with around 430bhp on tap from its 427ci V8, and tops off no fewer than 18 Corvettes going under the hammer. Another star attraction is a restored 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 Convertible, one of only 18 in existence and possibly the only red/black example made.

The auction line-up also reflects the owner’s enthusiasm for Pontiac GTOs – a lifelong passion that can be traced back to his childhood growing up in Detroit and a superb 1965 Tiger Gold example driven by his parents during his youth. On offer at the June sale are some 20 pristine GTOs, headlined by an unmistakable 1969 ‘Judge’ model, restored by marque specialist Scott Tiemann of the Supercar Specialties company.

Other notable highlights include a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429, one of just 498 examples produced that year, and two 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28s.RM’s sale continues the firm’s strong presence in California, which has included a string of highly successful private collection sales in recent years.

‘RM is delighted to have been chosen to present this outstanding group of cars at auction,’ said Ian Kelleher, RM’s chief operating officer. More information at www.rmauctions.com.
