Now celebrating its 17th year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Bonhams has assembled a strong lot list for its auction. Set in the suitably exclusive location of the Tapestry Lawn at Goodwood House, the sale includes a real variety of competition cars.
Top of the bill is the 1965 Ford GT40, chassis number GT40P/1018, which could sell for around £1 million. Alongside that is a brace of significant Mini Coopers, the first being the the ex-Paddy Hopkirk 1963 RAC Rally works 1962 Mini Cooper S ‘8 EMO’ (estimate £80,000-100,000) and the ex-Timo Makinen 1966 Monte Carlo Rally works 1965 Mini Cooper S ‘GRX 555D’, estimated to sell for £50,000-60,000. Could we be entering the era of the £100k Mini?
A 1922 Grand Prix Strasbourg Sunbeam, estimated to sell for £300,000-350,000, is another important piece of motor sport history. It competed in that year’s French Grand Prix with Sir Henry Segrave behind the wheel, although it retired with engine trouble after 29 laps. Freshly restored, it’s ready for the open road again.
