Now established as an integral part of the Monterey Week, the annual RM sale attracts some of the best cars on the market place, befitting of a gaggle of events that includes Pebble Beach. And this year is no exception with a rather special Jaguar C-type, a one-of-a-kind 1931 Miller V16 and a beautifully crafted 1927 Miller 91 rear drive racer from the esteemed Chuck Davis Collection head the bill.

The 1952 Jaguar C-type Sports Racing Car is expected to fetch around ,000,000 at the high profile sale. The car, carrying the chassis number XKC-007, was driven to victory in 1952 by Phil Hill to claim the C-type’s first North American racing victory. Originally shipped to New York in 1952, this example was immediately driven to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Phil Hill drove it to victory in The Sheldon Cup. From there, XKC-007 went on to achieve a first overall at Torrey Pines that same year.

In addition, XKC-007 has also enjoyed success on the show field, awarded a national championship in 1994 by the Jaguar Club of North America. In 2002 it was reunited with Phil Hill at Pebble Beach to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the C-type, and in 2006 at another commemorative event in Elkhart Lake when the Wisconsin road track was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

XKC-007 was fully restored during the early 1990s, XKC-007 found its way into the esteemed Jerry and Kathy Nell Collection in 1993, where it has remained ever since. The car is in correct period condition, and it boasts Phil Hill’s signature. The big question is whether it will reach RM’s expectations – but given the current strong prices being achieved by top-end investor cars, the chances of it happening are looking good.

The pair of Miller cars which RM are particularly proud of are also expected to do well with the American crowd. Created by racing car designer, Harry Miller, both cars are expected to attract major interest from the vintage racing scene. The 1931 Miller V16 is the only surviving example of the breed in existence, and has a truly comprehensive racing history, including numerous starts at Indianapolis.  Since then, the car was restored in 1992, being returned to 1932 specification. It starred at the 1993 Monterey Historic Races and Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and since then has attracted a huge following.

Joining the 1931 Miller V16 is the 1927 Miller 91 rear drive car – a recreation of the legendary Frank Lockhart Muroc Lake Land Speed Car and featuring the specially built Miller engine from that car. Like the V16, this example has also undergone a comprehensive and flawless concours restoration and is ‘on the button’ and track ready.
