Sir Stirling Moss' Porsche RS 61 will complete the line up Porsches on display as part of Race Retro’s chosen marque celebrations this weekend at Stoneleigh Park. One of only 14 built, Sir Stirling brought for it at the Amelia Island Auction in Florida to mark his 30th Wedding anniversary.
It will be joining a Porsche 962 Group C car in Blaupunkt livery, which was driven to third place overall at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1988 by Frank Jelinski, John Winter and Stanley Dickens, which will be on static display along with other iconic racing Porsches.
There are also a couple of notable examples up for sale at the Silverstone Auction on Saturday including the 1976 Porsche 934 ‘Jagermeister’ race car, bright orange with a very distinctive livery in the colours of a famous German drink, is an exact recreation of the original which was one of the most famous and evocative cars to compete in that season’s Le Mans and European GT Championship.
The car has been estimated at between £55,000 to £65,000, but for that it will be welcomed at many events worldwide, including the Classic Endurance Racing Series, Classic Le Mans, Masters events, the Silverstone Classic and all European GT Series. Group B Porsches will be in action on the Live Rally Stage on Saturday and Sunday too with Bjorn Waldegard taking to the wheel of Jay Kay’s 914/6.
Adult ticket prices are £20 when booking in advance, £25 on the gate. Children’s tickets are £5 on Friday or Saturday and free on Sunday. Parking is also free throughout. The show is open from 9.30am each day and closes at 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday.
