Preview: Goodwood Festival of Speed

This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed is going to honour two of the greatest motor sport eras. Firstly is Group C, which got going in 1982 – building into one of the most thrilling and power-hungry race series ever. It gave birth to the many great manufacturer battles at Le Mans, with Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes, Toyota, Nissan, Aston Martin, Lancia and Peugeot all entering cars building through the '80s and early '90s.

The weekend is also going to pay respect to the 40th anniversary of the 1972 motor sport season. A year when in the US, Can-Am was at its peak with McLaren, Porsche, Shadow and Lola all fighting for supremacy. At the same time in Europe, a set of harsh rule-changes created a bitter rivalry between Ferrari, Matra and Alfa Romeo. Goodwood will bring a selection of all these cars together to re-live the thrill of this pioneering age.
