Set amidst the magnificent backdrop of the Grade II listed House, designed in Roman style by Thomas Archer, using the English baroque layout, for owner Charles Talbot, the 12th Earl and 1st Duke of Shrewsbury, the Ferrari Owners’ Club mustered a stunning display of Enzo’s finest. Indeed, one car in the line-up, a 1961 250 GTE 2+2 Series II prototype, was reputedly driven to the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in September 1962 by Enzo Ferrari himself!
Owners Miles and Belinda Wilkins were celebrating 40 years of their 1971 365 GTC/4, the Earls Court Motor Show car, and the first RHD car produced. Owned by them for the last 25 years, this grand tourer has taken them the length and breadth of the UK from Scottish Islands in the north, to destinations across Europe, including motoring around racing circuits of the UK and Europe and taken part in several Beaujolais Runs.
Competition cars are always an important ingredient in every FOC National Meet & Concours. This year Chairman of the Modena Group Graham Schultz brought along their 2006 430 GT2 that’s been rebuilt and due to compete in next year’s Le Mans Series, with Paul Bailey driving. 'We tested the car at Silverstone last week and it was good straight out of the box,' enthused Graham. 'It will be out again this year for a couple of races, just to keep it up to scratch, so to speak.' Also on display was a 2003 575 GTC, a factory race car produced specifically for the FIA GTI and Grand-Am Championships, and as it appeared at Estoril and Monza in 2003. Its 5,997cc V12 engine producing 605bhp.
The 512BB model isn’t seen that often nowadays, with Alastair and Deborah Oxley’s 1978 car representing a mint condition, original, unrestored and low mileage example that they’ve owned for around 10 years. Cars on display with previous famous owners included Steve McQueen’s 1963 Lusso and Eric Clapton’s 1970 365GTC. Some of the day’s top awards included the H.R. Owen Trophy that was won by Nigel Allen for his 275 GTB/4, The Ladies Cup went to David Moore’s 250 Lusso, while the Connoisseur’s Collectors Cup was won by Clive Bate’s 1949 166 Inter Coupe, which is only the 6th Ferrari road car ever built. All of the day’s awards were presented by Club President ‘Gentleman’ Jack Sears. Unquestionably a superlative day out for owners and enthusiasts of Ferraris, with many of the most desirable and historically significant models on display.
