There are supercars in the house!

Thousands of spectators lined the sunny streets of Wilton, near Salisbury and the meandering driveway of scenic Wilton House.

Report: Wilton House Classic Rendezvous and Supercar

The supercar run, again expertly organised by Jay Broom, started at the crack of dawn in central London, collecting further runners at Fleet and Andover before thrashing up the hillclimb course at Gurston Down and then heading cross country to Wilton, arriving at mid-day. Host, Lord Pembroke joined in the fun in his Bugatti Veyron, one of two taking part. Among the dazzling entry were two new McLaren MP4-12Cs, a Koenigsegg Agera, an Aston Martin One-77, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Mercs, Beemers and Aston Martins galore, plus American Dodge Vipers, Corvettes, Mustangs and Moslers, Ford GTs,  a Superperformance GT40 and a Shelby Daytona Cobra continuation.

This year a classic element has been added. The convoy included pairs of gorgeous De Tomaso Panteras, Jaguar XJ220s and Lamborghini Miuras, plus a Lamborghini Espada, a Ferrari Dino and a Jaguar E Type.
Lord Pembroke also enlisted the help of Michael Scott of 96 Club to organise the ‘Classic Car Show’ by bringing in a raft of privately-owned classic cars: they looked as comfortably at home on the grounds of Wilton House as their modern counterparts. Over fifty cars, ranging from a rare 1904  Delaugere Clayette to a splendid Maserati Mistral Spyder, just back from an Italia Classica tour to Rome, were a suitable reminder of how alluring classic car history and ownership may be.
Set up in the riverside grounds of Wilton House which was efficiently marshalled by volunteers of the local Rotary Club, there were numerous classic car clubs, dealer stands and an arena for demonstrations.

Live music throughout the day, a parachute drop in by the Royal Artillery Black Knights and a giant tv screen showing the hillclimb runs, the “loudest car” competition (won by an Enzo whose driver and passenger had to wear headphones) and the prize giving all helped make this a hugely enjoyable, fun event. And furthermore, local children’s hospital charity “Stars Appeal” will benefit. A great success.
